Jefferson Fire Company 1 Remembers Past Chief Bob Emmetts

Robert M. Emmetts

October 10, 1942 – December 15, 2013

Fire Company 1 paid their last respects to Past Chief Bob Emmetts today, December 21st.

Bob was a brother, husband, father, grandfather.  He held many firematic positions in the fire company from Engineer, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief in 1980 and again in 1989.  He held administrative positions as well including Secretary and Financial Secretary.  He was a Relief Trustee, Rep to the Benevolent Association and life member of the NJ State Fireman’s Association.  He was a 38 year active member at JTFD #1.

Even though he worked nights early in his career with the fire company he always found time to get the job done at the fire house.  He could be found doing percentages on the large drafting table before we had computers and doing the year end letters on a type writer with carbon paper.  He was only a phone call away if help was needed.  He was a presence at parades, conventions and most of our events. He went with the flow and got things done.  He played a part in getting the fire company to look at safety when riding the back of the fire truck before it was no longer permitted.  Bob was known as “Dad Emmetts” always willing to listen to you or give you a hand.

He leaves behind big shoes to fill.  It will take many people to fill the shoes he leaves behind, he will be missed.
