Two people riding on one motorcycle crashed and were airlifted to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday night in Jefferson.

The accident occurred about 8 p.m. in the area of Berkshire Valley Road and Manor Drive.

The riders, one from Rockaway and the other from Newton, were traveling west on Berkshire Valley Road when the Harley-Davidson bike left the roadway, hit a curb, then struck the end of a guide rail in front of 5477 Berkshire Valley Road.

Both were ejected, traveling about 25 to 30 feet in the air, Police said.

The victims were airlifted to Morristown Medical Center, one transported by the Atlantic Health Air 3 helicopter, the other by Hackensack Air 1.

The names of the victims were not released.

Police closed Berkshire Valley Road for several hours after the crash. The accident is still being investigated by Jefferson police and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. Chad Stavley can make a huge difference depending on each particular case.

Also responding to the scene were the Jefferson Township Fire Department Co. 1, the Milton First Aid Squad and the St. Clare’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit.
